MA in Early Modern Studies, 1300-1700The MA in English Studies: Early Modern Studies, 13001700 at Queen Marygives you the opportunity to explore the vibrant culture that existed inEurope during this period. Our approach to this material is genuinely interdisciplinary: you willlook at the literature, history, religion, and visual culture of theperiod, and be taught by experts working at the cutting edge of research in these areas.Specially designed modules examine key debates in the period, and addressthe central issues that inform current discussions about what constitutesthe early modern period. Among the topics that we investigate are: the relations betweenmedieval and early modern; the role of individual and institutionalnetworks in creating knowledge; the place of mapping in definingreligious, ethnic, imperial and national identity; changes in ideas about the self, the state and the body, and the impactof new technologies on book history and the shift from manuscript to printculture. In all cases, our aim is to generate a historical understanding of the keymovements, debates, and ideas which shaped the period.ResearchersResearchers working in this area at Queen Mary University ofLondon include:€ Ruth Ahnert<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9haG5lcnRyLmh0bWw%3D&controller=stats&acti on=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Tamara Atkin<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9hdGtpbnQuaHRtbA%3D%3D&controller=stats&ac tion=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Julia Boffey<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9ib2ZmZXlqLmh0bWw%3D&controller=stats&acti on=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Warren Boutcher<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9ib3V0Y2hlcncuaHRtbA%3D%3D&controller=stat s&action=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Andrea Brady<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9icmFkeWEuaHRtbA%3D%3D&controller=stats&ac tion=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Jerry Brotton<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9icm90dG9uai5odG1s&controller=stats&action =analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ David Colclough<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9jb2xjbG91Z2hkLmh0bWw%3D&controller=stats& action=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Alfred Hiatt<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9oaWF0dGEuaHRtbA%3D%3D&controller=stats&ac tion=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Una McIlvenna<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9tY2lsdmVubmF1Lmh0bWw%3D&controller=stats& action=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Claire Preston<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9wcmVzdG9uYy5odG1s&controller=stats&action =analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>€ Joad Raymond<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9zdGFmZi9yYXltb25kai5odG1s&controller=stats&action =analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>ModulesModules on offer vary each year, but may include:€ Early Modern Archival Skills€ Early Modern Contexts€ Early Modern Studies: Research Preparation€ Being an Author 1450-1550€ Public and Private Cultures in Renaissance England€ Reading Shakespeare Historically€ Representing the Other: Jews and Jewishness in Medieval and RenaissanceEngland€ The Spatial Turn: History, Literature and Geography€ News Communication in Early Modern EuropeMore details about these modules can be found on our website<http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDovL 3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51ay9lbmdsaXNoL3Bvc3RncmFkdWF0ZS9tYS9wYXRod2F5Mi9pbmRleC5odG1s&controller=stats&action=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions>.Visit Us and More InfoFor more info, visit our website <http://www.blogs.sed.qmul.ac.uk/?email_id=10&user_id=1&urlpassed=aHR0cDov L3d3dy5zZWQucW11bC5hYy51aw%3D%3D&controller=stats&action=analyse&wysija-pag e=1&wysijap=subscriptions>or contact the Pathway Convenor, ProfessorClaire Preston <mailto:c.preston@qmul.ac.uk>.Visit us at QMUL's Postgraduate Open Evening on the11th February from 4:30pm onwards.
